The new cinema development in Haverfordwest’s Riverside Shopping Centre will see £12 million pumped into leisure facilities for the town, with planning consent granted last month.
The industry magazine Business Quarterly have wrote about the plans for Fairacre’s development in Pembrokeshire stating the multi-million project is due to get underway later this year.
The key facts on the Riverside Development
- Fairacre Property submitted their plans last year with support from chartered surveyors, Montagu Evans.
- Multiplex chain Reel Cinemas is lined up to run the cinema.
- The plan includes 15,100 sq ft leisure space with four restaurants and shops at ground floor level and a five-screen cinema on the first floor.
- Improvement of public space in the town centre, including the widening of the riverside walkway, the addition of new seating, as well as landscaping and a covered bicycle storage area.
Jeanne Pritchard, of Fairacre, told Business Quarterly: “The redevelopment of this town centre site will provide widespread opportunity for existing retailers and traders in Haverfordwest.
“Our aim here is to attract more visitors to the town during the day and to also boost the night-time economy.
“The commitment from Reel is very positive and we are looking forward to progressing with this scheme.”
Lucy Turner, associate at Montagu Evans, added: “Bringing forward a new leisure destination will help create a much stronger evening economy around one of Haverfordwest’ key town centre sites.
“Our planning team worked closely with Fairacre and the council to guide the development through planning.
“In addition, our heritage team provided advice in respect to the Welsh Government’s concerns over the scheme’s impact on the historic Haverfordwest Castle, and the council’s requirement to ensure the design of the proposal remained sympathetic to the historic townscape.”
